1 & 2 Peter (with Jude): Stand Firm! Grow! Contend!

Though not explicitly stated until the conclusion of his letter, Peter’s emphasis in his first epistle is a call to his readers to stand firm. Believers are to remain resolute and unyielding in their faith and in the true grace of God:

I have written to you briefly, exhorting and testifying that this is the true grace of God. Stand firm in it! (1 Peter 5:12)

In his follow-up letter, Peter is more concerned about false teachers infiltrating the church. In this second epistle, he calls out final reminders for his audience to diligently pursue spiritual growth as the avenue of protection against the “error of unprincipled men”:

But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To Him be the glory, both now and to the day of eternity. Amen. (2 Peter 3:18).

The study of Peter's letters concludes with a week in the book of Jude. Whereas Peter warned about false teachers among them (2 Peter 2:1), Jude's epistle records their arrival, calling for the beloved in God to persevere while contending for the Truth.
