Revelation (aka the Apocalypse) comes from the Latin and Greek words for “unveiling.” Rather than a collection of enigmatic prophecies, Revelation is a reasonable, orderly unveiling of Christ and His final victory over Satan, sin, and the evil world’s system. As an “unsealed” book (Revelation 22:10), the purpose of Revelation is to reveal—namely the events which will take place immediately before,
during, and following the second coming of Christ. Finally, Revelation 1:3 provides John’s promise to
the readers of this book: Blessed is he who reads and those who hear the words of the prophecy, and heed the things which are written in it; for the time is near.
